Hapless

Great news for comedy fans! Peacock has secured the U.S. rights to the first and second seasons of the British sitcom “Hapless.” Created by seasoned British director Gary Sinyor, the show follows the misadventures of an eccentric and accident-prone journalist working for a fictional Jewish newspaper. The lead role is played by Tim Downie, known for his work in “Outlander” and “Paddington.”

Described as a “cringe” comedy, “Hapless” shares a comedic style akin to the popular U.S. series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” The show has gained popularity in the UK and is available on Prime, with Viaplay securing the rights for Scandinavia, Poland, and Benelux.

The second season introduces Jeany Spark as Paul’s expressive single-mom sister Naomi, Mike Fenton Stevens as his mischievous dad, and Josh Howie reprising his role as the neurotic singleton Simon.

Written and directed by Gary Sinyor, whose credits include “Leon The Pig Farmer,” “Stiff Upper Lips,” and New Line’s “The Bachelor,” “Hapless” brings a fresh and offbeat British humor to American audiences. Sinyor expressed his excitement about introducing the show to the U.S., highlighting the unique blend of Britishness and the ‘jangle’ (Jewish Angle) that adds familiarity. James Spring of Fred Films/Blue Penguin TV serves as the executive producer for the series, emphasizing that “Hapless” satirizes a broad spectrum, uniting the UK audience in laughter, and they are eager to see the response from the U.S. audience.

Sinyor added, “Peacock looks like a perfect way to reach a massive American comedy audience,” and with its distinctive comedic style, “Hapless” promises to bring a delightful dose of British humor to U.S. viewers. Get ready for some belly laughs!
