Britney Spears’ Debut Film “Crossroads” Arrives on Netflix
Before captivating audiences with her mesmerizing online dance routines, Britney Spears graced the silver screen in her first-ever film role, “Crossroads.” Now, fans can rejoice as the 2002 classic is set to make its much-anticipated debut on Netflix come February 15th, marking its first appearance on a streaming platform since its original release.
In “Crossroads,” Spears portrays “Lucy,” a character embarking on a transformative journey alongside her childhood best friends Kit (Zoë Saldana) and Mimi (Taryn Manning), joined by Mimi’s friend Ben (Anson Mount) for a cross-country road trip filled with laughter, tears, and self-discovery.
Penned by the acclaimed Shonda Rhimes, the film resurfaced in theaters last year for two special nights in October, coinciding with the release of Spears’ memoir, “The Woman in Me.”
Reflecting on the film’s enduring appeal, director Tamra Davis remarked, “I recently rewatched Crossroads and was so enthralled with the time capsule of nostalgia that this incredible ensemble cast brings to the screen. Britney is absolutely breathtaking to watch, and Shonda is showing us her early expertise in writing complicated female characters.”
The announcement of “Crossroads” joining the Netflix lineup was met with excitement on social media, with the streaming giant proclaiming, “The first movie to ever star the one and only Britney Spears has never been available on streaming… but that’s about to change!” Embracing a global audience, Netflix revealed its plans to make the film accessible worldwide starting February 15th.
In addition to Spears, “Crossroads” boasts a talented ensemble cast including Kim Cattrall, Justin Long, Dan Aykroyd, and Jamie Lynn Spears, who notably portrays the younger version of her sister Britney’s character, adding an extra layer of familial charm to the heartfelt narrative.
