‘Sung Kang: The Ride Life’ Docu-Series Takes the Fast & Furious Star on a Thrilling Journey
Sung Kang, known for his roles in the Fast & Furious franchise, is embarking on an exciting new venture in the world of car cultures. The actor is co-producing and starring in a captivating docu-series titled “The Ride Life with Sung Kang,” which explores car cultures across the globe. This multi-country car culture show is generating significant buzz and is set to make its debut at Mipcom Cannes.
Kang’s production company, Raison D’Etre Stories, is collaborating with Singapore-based Beach House Pictures, Bros Studios, and Insight TV, an international action and adventure network, to bring this project to life.
Sung Kang will be in Cannes next week to promote the six-part series, with a presentation scheduled for Tuesday, October 17 at 4 pm during the ‘Singapore Hour,’ hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). The presentation will showcase new productions with connections to Singaporean companies.
The production of the series moved forward after SAG-AFTRA granted permission for Kang to participate in this unscripted project, following full signatory clearance for filming. Kang expressed his support for SAG-AFTRA and its strike, highlighting his gratitude for their permission to be part of “The Ride Life.” Currently, Kang is filming the series in Warsaw, Poland.
“The Ride Life with Sung Kang” is filming across various locations and is expected to be ready for delivery in mid-2024. The show revolves around Kang’s journey as he explores the world of cool and rare vehicles. Through this adventure, he seeks to deepen the understanding of the profound relationship between man and machine.
Kang shared his motivation behind the series, stating, “I’ve been thinking about this series for over a decade now. The privilege and blessing that comes with working on the Fast & Furious franchise is the character I play is so beloved that I have the garage key to everyone’s story. Everyone wants to invite me in and crack open a beer. I’ve met some amazing human beings through that. These are people who inspire me on many levels. I felt it was selfish to keep this knowledge and experience to myself.”
The show will take Kang to bustling car capitals around the world, including London, Tokyo, LA, Seoul, as well as lesser-known car communities in Chicago and Warsaw. Along the way, the people he encounters prompt him to reflect on life decisions, such as whether his hobbies have made him selfish and how he can become a better husband.
Sung Kang emphasized the unique perspective of “The Ride Life,” stating, “When you look at the landscape of car shows, they follow a certain build: how fast the cars go or how they are built. You don’t see the person behind them. The car is the front, but the person is the inspiration.”
Michael O’Connor, VP of Production and Content at Insight TV, expressed his excitement about the series, noting, “The Ride Life will definitely not disappoint when it comes to showcasing beautiful, powerful, and one-of-a-kind cars. We’re also very fortunate to have Sung introduce our global audience to his lifelong passion for cars, his interactions with the communities that revere them, and his unique view of the world.”
“The Ride Life with Sung Kang” is being executive produced by Michael O’Connor for Insight TV, Donovan Chan and Jocelyn Little for Beach House Pictures, and Joseph Jang for Bros Studio. Kang’s business partner at Raison D’Etre Stories, Brian Yang, serves as the producer for the series. The show will air on Insight TV’s global channels, which reach 56 countries worldwide and are available in 12 languages. It will also be available for licensing in other territories.
