Tom Williams

After a year with Apple TV+, Tom Williams, the Europe commissioner, is bidding farewell to the streaming giant to embark on a new adventure with the BBC Studios Drama Productions team. Previously a key member of Jay Hunt’s European commissioning team, Williams made the move from indie Wall to Wall towards the end of the previous year. This departure stands out against the recent trend in the UK, where executives have typically been transitioning from indies and networks to join streaming platforms.

In his new role, Williams will assume the position of Head of Development, Drama at BBC Studios Drama Productions. His impressive resume includes contributions to notable productions such as “Ten Percent” and “The Man in the High Castle” for Prime Video, as well as “The English Game” for Netflix.

This appointment comes hot on the heels of the news that Kate Oates has taken on the role of Head of Drama Productions at BBC Studios, effectively succeeding Priscilla Parish and now leading the largest UK drama hub outside of London. Roxanne Harvey is also joining the team, taking on the role of executive producer for the enduring soap “Casualty.”

In his new capacity, Williams will oversee BBC Studios Drama Productions’ national development team and lead the BBC Studios writing initiatives. Reporting to Deborah Sathe, who was recently promoted to Creative Director, Williams is poised to contribute to the studio’s creative direction in this exciting new phase.

Roxanne Harvey, in addition to her role on “Casualty,” will spearhead the development of a range of projects for both the UK and international markets. Kate Oates expressed enthusiasm about the new additions, stating, “It is an exciting time to welcome such experienced and ambitious creatives, as we grow our own slate of shows.” Williams and Harvey bring a wealth of experience to their new roles, contributing to the studio’s vibrant creative landscape.

Tom Williams shared his excitement about joining BBC Studios, stating, “BBC Studios has a long history of producing some of the best and most loved shows in the UK and around the world, so the opportunity to play a part in shaping the creative direction of this exciting new era for the studio was simply too good of an opportunity to turn down.”

BBC Studios Drama Productions boasts an impressive slate that includes popular titles like “EastEnders,” “Casualty,” “Father Brown,” “Sister Boniface,” “River City,” “Pobol Y Cwm,” and the new comedy-drama “Anfamol.” The unit not only produces content for the BBC but also develops projects for domestic and international channels and platforms, housing the BBC Studios Casting department. The arrival of Tom Williams and Roxanne Harvey adds further momentum to the studio’s creative endeavors.
